My morning is going to be better than your morning. My morning is going to have PANCAKES.

Last night I was hopped up on a latte I got in the afternoon, and felt like some exercise. Left my house on my bike at 7 to meet up with a friend and didn't get home till 8:45, having done a few 3.2 mile laps around Hains Point. It felt good! Then it felt tired. I went to bed before 10 last night... and woke up at 5:52 this morning. Do you know when the last time that happened was? That I woke up BEFORE 6 and felt rested?

Yeah, me neither. Probably pre-adolescence.

Anyway, I made banana chocolate chip pancakes and I'm still early enough that I'll be able to drop my bike off at the shop on the way to work to get my rear wheel trued/rounded (can you say that?) and my rear derailer adjusted. How about THAT.

I want the ball AND the frisbee

I got Raleigh a Kong frisbee a few weeks ago (best $6 purchase made this year). Today I got home lateish so I was playing with him in the yard rather than going on a proper walk. The soccer ball is Raleigh's favorite, but I don't like playing with it because he doesn't drop it ever, he just thrusts it into my thighs and then runs away. So I was throwing the frisbee, which he was excited about. Not excited enough to leave the soccer ball though. He would run over to the frisbee, pick it up, then go to where the ball had rolled, pick it up, and bring them both over to me.

"Mom! I want them both! Come on, play soccer! Okay, no soccer. I'm gonna play soccer though okay? I'll play both! At the same time!"

Oh yeah, and

the other awesome thing from the last 2 days is that I tried out a Gentle Leader with Raleigh for the first time yesterday and it's like magic. I called my family this morning and I was telling them about it and Ruby told me I sound like a commercial. Gentle Leaders: they really work. Ba-BAM! I want to take Raleigh everywhere now because I know I can control him without having a fight!

Bike improvements!

I'm so happy with my new handlebars!

Peace + elephants

Yesterday some of us interns and also Tommy and Colin went to the other side of the Capitol to watch the circus elephants parade! We took "War Is Not The Answer" signs and a camera and called it work.

We had to wait for a while because the elephants were being slow, so we took a lot of propaganda pictures in the mean time.....

Below: Lizzie, Stephen, Colin, Matt, Me. (Tommy took all the pictures and all the rights for the pictures belong to FCNL so don't steal! Or at least ask first. FCNL is pretty generous.) LOOK AT THAT BLUE SKY!

Holy crap it's elephants!

Aaaaand there's the Capitol. See Colin lurking in the background?

That's right, Colin. Come hang out with the cool kids.

Boston cream pi

Yesterday was Pi Day (3/14) so I made a Boston cream pie. I made it at Colin's because Zach and Emily were over there gardening and I thought, great, I'll have people to help me eat the Boston cream pie! But then Zach and Emily left, so I called Stephen and Ranajoy to see if they wanted to help a sister out. Stephen was very excited about it.

And in this photo you can see Colin being slowly defeated by the sheer quantity of cream and sugar involved.

I definitely recommend it.

I don't have to put my bike lights on when I ride home from work

After work, Raleigh and I have been making it to the cemetery just in time for the last light of the day.

JUANES AT FCNL

(Photos in this post shot by Tommy Bobo, all rights reserved and all that.)

OMG OMG. Juanes came to FCNL for a meeting with a group trying to ban landmines.

Juanes thinks war is not the answer. Juanes is also wearing silver shoes but -- way to go, Tommy -- you can't see them.

Okay you can't really tell, but this is me SHAKING HANDS WITH JUANES:

See my blue bracelet? See my starstruck face? Oh wait, you can't see my face because it's blocked by Juanes.

Oh my god, it's like spring or something

Mr. Dog and I just took our weekly Saturday trip to the cemetery. Recently I've been able to take him after work for a little while before it gets dark! Very exciting. Today I took a frisbee for me (Sneetch classic), a frisbee for him (Kong frisbee!), a book, and some sunglasses. A few things:

First of all, he LOVES the Kong frisbee! He might even like frisbee as much as he likes soccer (which is a lot). The Kong frisbee is totally awesome because it's made of tough rubber, so he can chew on it and tug on it and try to stuff the whole damn thing in his mouth without destroying it!

Second of all, holy crap but it's beautiful out. After he got tired of playing frisbee, I found a sunny spot (not hard to do) and lay down with my book. Ohhhhh.... sun. I love you. This is the kind of day that makes life look just plain beautiful.
